There are a number of different ways to organize the various types of kami. This is the one I find most useful when I talk about kami with other people.

Culture kami – kami related to humans, human relationships, and tasks within society

Nature kami – kami related to unusual features or powers in natural objects or phenomena

yaoyorozu-no-kami – kami not included in culture or nature – the everyday and the abnormal
