How Can You Get Purification
So you've come into contact with pollution. How do you go about getting purified?
There are several different methods you can try.
If you have one near you, you can go to your local shrine and have the shinshoku (priest) perform a cleansing ritual. This will usually involve waving an oonusa over you. The shinshoku may also chant, "harae tamae, kiyome tamae, mamori tamae" while doing it.
Get or make a hitogata and transfer the pollution to it by wiping it along your body and breathing on it three times. Then ritually dispose of it into either fire or water
Obtain an omamori, although these are more often used to either protect or bring about a desired outcome. Carry it with you whenever possible.
Use the water in a mizuya, or lacking one of those, in a waterfall if available. Chanting when taking a shower or even washing in a sink can work in a pinch.
Sprinkle your self with salt or sea-sand containing salt. Salt can also be placed in small mounds about your property, or along openings to your home.
Use fire in the form of a torch passed along your limbs, or by leaping through a bonfire. Although care needs to taken of your hair and any flamable clothing.
If fire worries you, use incense or smoke as you would fire.
Chanting, singing, poetry, making music, or dance can also work, provided you immerse yourself in the activity.
